Day 9-Martha's Vineyard

Today was the day that we drove around the island. We started off going to The Art Cliff Diner that Kevin saw on his morning jog. The wait was an hour and 15 minutes, but well worth it. We all wanted more than one thing on the menu. It was delicious! We did not finish breakfast until about 12:30, so that turned into lunch. We drove into Edgartown and then down Beach Road, over the bridge that everyone jumps from and into Oak Bluffs. We were going to see the light house in Oak Bluffs and I the oldest carousel in the United States. It was so crowded that we kept on driving and didn't stop. We drove down to the lighthouse but could not climb it. We then drove into Vineyard Haven, and then to West Tisbury. We stopped an a famous Vineyard landmark, Ally's general store. It was basically junk and they did not have a public bathroom so mom got mad and we moved on. We did find a bathroom at the Town Hall in West Tisbury. We then drove through Chillmark and onto the town of Aquinnah, where we were going to climb the Gay Head light house and see the clay cliffs. The lighthouse was open and beautiful but the views were breathtaking. It is home to the Wampanaug, as it has been for 5000 years and they have a trading post on top of the cliffs. I have to mention there was a $.50 charge to use the facilities. We looked around up there and then the girls wanted to walk down the cliffs to the beach. So daddy waited in the car and we set out to walk down to the beach. It was about a 10 minute walk to the beach and it was pretty cool. It had boulders and rocks but the sand was hard and easy to walk on. The water was rough and the cliffs were beautiful from the beach looking up. The girls had a great time and Colbie managed to get wet in her dress. She had kicked her shoes off when we got there and forgotten about them. We were down the beach away's and all that the sudden she took off running. She was running zigzag and then stopped far ahead of me and looked very worried. Callen had run after her and said she just kept pointing to the ocean and said, "my shoes are out there, my shoes are out there". I was walking slower and saw her shoes, she ran right past them. Right as she was getting ready to cry she saw me with her shoes. Thankfully, there was a road down by the beach and we called daddy and he found us so we didn't have to hike all the way back up the cliffs. After seeing all of the island, we could not wait to go back to Edgartown. We hadn't planned on it but it's such a wonderful little town with great food and excellent shopping that we went back for a very nice dinner at the Atlantic on the water. We ate dinner and then had a few hours to walk around town and shop for one last time. daddy dropped us off at the campground and had to return our beloved Rent-A-Car. The downfall was she had to walk the 1.6 miles back to the campground at 11 o'clock at night. He did fine and I called him three or four times. He is home now and all is well. :)

This was a good one, Kayla and Callen both exiting the turnstile at the same time on opposite sides.
