Day 2-Natural Bridge

Today we left Green acres RV park at a round 9:00. We headed to Lexington, VA and decided to stop at Natural Bridge, VA. The girls (Colbie) were a little stir crazy so we figured a 2 mile hike would be better than a carriage ride in Lexington. We managed to get a site at the KOA between Natural Bridge and Lexington. The generator kept going in and out but that was okay, we all huddled in the front near the A/C and had some quality bonding time:).
Kevin did great as we got to the Shenandoah Mountains, he wasn't white knuckled at all:)
We made it to Natural Bridge just in time to do everything they had to offer. We went to the Caverns first. It was nice and cool but hard to be impressed after seeing Mammoth and Carlsbad. Still fun and the girls loved it. Next we went to a really creepy wax museum and a totally lame toy museum! The girls were in tears as we poured out the the door of the wax museum they were so creeped out!! Next we went to the Natural Bridge, the pictures do not do it justice, it is huge! It was really neat. We went on a 2 mile hike and saw a Lost River, walked along Cedar Creek, travelled back in time at a Monacan Village, and walked down to Lace Falls. The Village had just closed and Colbie was very disappointed so we let her slip thru the gate and check out the village. It was
a long walk to the "falls", they were neat but not grand;). On the walk, Colbie followed Callen who followed Kayla through rocks in a river and of course it was Colbie who slipped. They were all warned that if they fell they would be hiking in their wet clothes. I caught her to spare her clothes but she got to hike to the falls in her wet shoe and sock.
We were pretty tired when we got back so we hit the gift shop and headed for the KOA. We had dinner in the RV, lasagna, ravioli and "little noodles". I went to the bath house for the first time to see what all the excitement was about, never again. Still had to shower Colbie in a tiny shower and had to pass all the shower supplies to Callen in another stall as I finished. Colbie and I will be staying in the RV at shower time from now on!!
From the ad...
Once owned by Thomas Jefferson, surveyed by a young George Washington, and traversed by Civil War soldiers - the Natural Bridge is a portal to history.
Tomorrow we check out Lexington, VA, Robert E Lee and Stonewall Jackson.
