Day 10-Plymouth and Whale Watching

Wow, what a day we have had. We woke up at the crack of dawn and got to the Vineyard Haven Ferry at 8:00 AM. It was smaller and a little harder to maneuver, but had open air so the girls continued to sleep. Gene, stop reading for a moment, we hit the side of the ferry pulling in and there was a big bang. However, luckily it didn't do any damage :). We crossed over on the ferry and left Woods Hole and Falmouth behind. We were leaving Cape Cod and had one more slight incident. We were crossing over the Cape Cod canal on the Sagamore bridge (very narrow) and hit the side of the bridge. Don't worry, we did not go over and again, miraculously not much damage done :). We made it safely to Plymouth plantation and none of us really knew what to expect. We were happy to see a huge parking lot so we went in. There was a short video and then a self-guided tour of a Wampanoag Home site, a craft center and a 17th century English village. The Wampanoag homesite was cool but we saw a little more of the Wampanoag Indian then we wanted to. The craft center was really neat, they were making pottery, woodwork, and feather headpieces. The gift shop was awesome, the best fudge we have come across this whole trip, and we have tasted a lot of fudge! The 17th-century English Village was really neat. The girls loved it and even Kevin was impressed. All of the colonists were in full character of the residents you would've found living in the colony in 1627 complete with awesome accents. There were chickens running around, and each home had people in it cooking lunch or working out in the garden. The whole colony was on a hillside overlooking Cape Cod Bay. They loved it when we asked questions, the girls were almost speechless they were so interesting. On our way out, mom ran back to the gift shop to buy more fudge and then we headed into Plymouth, Massachusetts.
When we arrived at Plymouth we did not have time for the Mayflower so we grabbed a bite to eat at a pub on Plymouth Harbor before loading on to Capt. John's whale watching boat. The boat was great, very friendly people and a nice clean boat with gift shop and snack bar. We drove about an hour out to Stellwagen Bank at the tip of Cape Cod Bay near Provincetown. Daddy and Kayla fell asleep, probably because of the complementary Dramamine they were handing out. We started seeing the whales right when we arrived at their feeding ground. They were so cute, most of them were baby calves and the mom humpback whales floating to the surface. The baby calf was rolling over right near the boat and slapping it's fin on the water over and over again. It was pretty cool and the girls loved it. All of us except Colbie fell asleep on the way in… Hope she behaved herself. We made it back in and went straight to the Mayflower where we enjoyed walking around the ship and talking to the sailor down below in full character. When the girls asked a question he said, "go ahead cry out." He was kind of strange but when we talked to him it turns out he was pretty funny. He told the girls a riddle..."I'm thinking of something yeah I'm thinking of something… The maker of this thing, he don't need it. The buyer of this thing, he don't use it. And the user of this thing… He doesn't even k-now he's using it." K-know what it is? A coffin.
Anyway it turns out that Mr. creepy sailor was pretty funny. Colbie asked a question trying to give him a riddle and asked him... what flew on Christmas night pulling something and had a red nose? Our mysterious sailor accused her of being drunk because of course in 1627 they didn't know about Rudolph the red nose reindeer. We walked over and saw Plymouth Rock and then headed back to the RV to leave Plymouth, Massachusetts. We decided to drive up to Boston to eat at a diner, drive-ins and dives, Mr. Bartlets. It was a lot of fun driving into Boston because we loved seeing the culture and architecture of all the buildings. However, we could not find a place to park and decided to go back and park at a Target we saw and take a cab in. By the time we got back there, we called the restaurant and they closed at nine. Ridiculous. So we ate at an Applebee's and headed off to our campground in Bellingham Massachusetts.
