Day 3-Lexington

We had a great time today walking around Lexington. We woke up this morning and had breakfast at the Pink Cadillac Diner before we drove into Lexington. We parked at the Lexington visitor center and pretty much walked around up and down the hills all day. We started at Stonewall Jackson's House and we all actually learned a lot. Colbie, however, was yawning loudly during the nice man's speech. We saw the house, learned a lot about Stonewall Jackson, and hit the gift shop. Then we walked the streets of Lexington and it reminded us of Auburn. We went to a few shops before going out to Robert E Lee Chapel at Washington and Lee University. The chapel was very impressive as were the museums that they added as a memorial for Robert E Lee. We walked some more around the campus and then walked over to the Virginia Military Institute Campus. There was a huge difference in the two campuses, both were very impressive. By the way, I haven't mentioned that it was drizzling rain all day long. We walked to VMI and saw an exhibit on Stonewall Jackson, including his stuffed horse. Everyone we saw thought Colbie was awfully cute in her confederate hat. We had a great meal that gave us enough energy to walk back to the RV. Then we drove to Stonewall Jackson cemetery and saw where he was buried. We finished in Lexington a little early so we decided to drive a few hours tonight to get us closer to New York. There is much excitement in the air as we all prepare to hit the city that never sleeps. Even though it is still raining, mom managed to build a fire and roast marshmallows with Callen and Colbie. Kevin and Kayla weren't exactly on board with roasting marshmallows in the rain.
One thing I might have forgotten to mention yesterday… We were walking up to the waterfall at the Natural Bridge and noticed that Colbie had her hand resting on her bottom. We asked her what she was doing a few times since she said nothing. We were concerned so we asked her again and she said she wanted to see if her bottom moved while she walked! So funny how the mind of a 5 year old works.
Driving up through Virginia was really beautiful with all the rolling hills, corn fields and farms with red barns.
