It was not pleasant nor enjoyable finding our way across Connecticut and Massachusetts. The navigation took us on lovely roads with stone arch bridges over them. It was a beautiful drive until we started seeing signs of low clearance down to 9'2". We quickly called Papa and asked how tall the RV was screaming as we went under the bridge. After a few of these bridges, we decided to get off of the lovely road and catch our breath and figure out an alternate route. We arrived in Boston about 22 hours after we left home. We managed to find one of the four parking spots that the RV would fit in located in the bottom of the parking deck of the Prudential Center. They were not actually parking spots, they were just the loading docks that we were allowed to park in for a cash fee privately to the security guard. It was somewhat stressful coming into Boston as we drove right next to Fenway Park where the Sox were playing the Blue Jays. We hit a few shops, and made our way through the streets of Boston where there was more shopping and restaurants in the form of the quant little brownstone houses. We found Boston Commons where Colbie was excited to see the statue from Make Way for the Ducklings near Beacon Street. We noticed there were a lot of foreigners in everyone's clothing was dark and Earth tones. Again, we stuck out as tourists. We were walking back to the Prudential Center and stopped at a restaurant called The Met Bar where we had a very nice dinner. We went back to the RV and started the horrific drive to Salem. Everywhere the navigation took us, we ended up seeing "no cars allowed" signs. With the unfortunate bridge experience still fresh on our minds, we decided to take the cars only signs seriously. We finally made it to Salem at about midnight and decided it is a very creepy place. It was dark and overcast but we backed in to our spot on the water of Winter Island, the former Fort Pickering but now a sleeping fishing park in Salem Harbor. As the sun came up it didn't look as spooky and although it was raining and cold, we had a great time exploring the docks and the working lighthouse on Salem Harbor or Winter Island as they called it. Of course we were way behind schedule so we quickly went into town and decided to check out the Salem Witch Museum just to say we did it. It was informative and we learned that they were not really witches but bored little schoolgirls being mean and ultimately ended up getting 150 innocent people hung. We left wondering if John and Elizabeth Proctor might be somewhere in our family tree. John was hung but Elizabeth saved as she was with child. The architecture in all the buildings is so cool, Callen loves the flowers and Kimber thought the signs on all of the old houses saying they were built for was neat. We are now venturing north up the coast in this cold and rainy weather!
